Tenafly High School is one of the most consistently high-ranking schools, not only in Bergen County, but also across the state. Last year, it ranked 20th among 424 New Jersey schools rated by the US News & World Report. Meanwhile Niche.com ranks it as the 29th best public high school across the state in its 2017 rankings.
According to the New Jersey Department of Education’s 2015-16 school year performance reports, Tenafly High School tops Bergen County when it comes to sending students to four-year colleges, boasting a 96.3% graduation rate. Average SAT scores were commendable at 1,307 out of 1,600. In comparison, the statewide average was 1,075.
Tenafly High School anchors a similarly well-recognized Tenafly Public Schools District (ranked 6th on Niche.com’s list of the best New Jersey school districts). With a strong educational ecosystem, it’s no coincidence that this borough is known as one of the best places to live in the Garden State.
Northern Valley Regional High Schools
The Northern Valley Regional High School District operates in two Bergen County boroughs, Old Tappan and Demarest. Both public high schools are notable performers.
In the 2015-16 academic year, the Old Tappan school graduated 94.7% of its senior class, ranking third highest among Bergen County schools. SAT performance was above-par with an average score of 1,220. This year, North Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan earned the 227th spot on Newsweek’s rankings of the country’s best 500 high schools.
The North Valley Regional High School at Demarest is not far behind. On the Newsweek list, it comes in at #234. Among Bergen schools, it ranks fifth highest in terms of sending students to college, with a 94.2% graduation rate. Average SAT scores are impressive at 1,276.
Cresskill High School
Cresskill Borough’s local high school made Newsweek’s 2016 list of 500 best high schools in the United States, ranking 425th. The publication listed it as the 47th best statewide and 30th among non-magnet schools. Local publication New Jersey Monthly ranked it 26th among the state’s best public high schools.
Cresskill High School has an exceptional graduation rate of 94.3%, based on 2015-16 data from the state’s education department. Students earned 1,220 on average on their SATs during the year. The school has a high student-teacher ratio of 9:1, compared to the national average of 16:1.
In addition to the high school, Cresskill Borough is also home to a strong special education program that serves students from preschool age to 21 years old.
